Sabbath Moment by the Seashore

Let your grace be a sun that never sets. (from Liturgy of the Hours, Morning Prayer, Wednesday, Week II, intercessions)
I tried to be more aware of opportunities for more Sabbath moments this week. I am finding that these moments really give me much needed rest, and close moments with God, even if the moment is only 15 minutes! I spent some time in the chapel during my workdays. And there was, of course, the beach. (I know, I know, another beach story.) Going to the water seems to quench my thirst and nourish my soul.
I only live a 5 minute drive from the beach. So one evening, an hour before sunset, I decided to go to the beach and watch the sunset and just 'be.'
While I sat on the beach waiting, I watched families with children walking and playing and laughing. I saw couples of all ages, walking hand in hand along the shoreline. I watched seagulls flying overhead and pelicans dive into the water trying to catch their dinner. I felt relaxed. I felt rested. I felt at peace.
The sunset itself was a disappointment. It was too cloudy near the horizon and except for a little peachy color on the edges of the clouds, there was no visible evidence of a sunset. But I knew it was still there, still happening, even though I could not see it.
And I knew God was there, too. In the people and the nature. In the silence and the peace. And in my own heart.
So I sat there for a little while longer, watching the daylight fading away, resting with the Lord in the midst of His creation.

I too am a big fan of sunsets and also love the peace and serenity I get from being close to water. Our God is such an awesome God!
Colleen,
You can tell as many beach stories as you like; I never tire of them. I wish I could get to the ocean a little more often. Thanks for sharing your Sabbath Moment. I love the quote from the Liturgy of the hours.
God Bless!
I have always found solace in nature. I am grateful that we live so close to Lake Michigan and we spend a lot of time there. It is such a peaceful place.
I enjoy reading your Sabbath moments!
Debra, amen!
Karinann, I love that quote, too. I have been thinking of using it in a post for awhile and kept holding back and then this came up. Guess the Holy Spirit knew when the right time was!
Jamey, I have never seen the Great Lakes. I hope to someday. Thanks for reading my Sabbath Moments!
God bless all for visiting and commenting. I appreciate it.
I love the beach; the infinite power of God, great beauty, and just plain fun. Thanks for joining us for Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival
RAnn, thanks. I love the beach for those same reasons! God bless.
