Who Do We Listen To?

The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. – Mark 1:22
We get it from all sides. People who tell us what to do or what to think. People who seem to speak with authority.
How do we know who is right? Who are we supposed to listen to?
Listen to the One who frees us from unclean spirits.
Listen to the One who heals us from illness and sin.
Listen to the One with perfect authority.
Jesus speaks to us through His Word. He speaks to us through His sacraments. He speaks to us through His Church.
Jesus speaks with authority.
There are some who do not hear Jesus.
There are some who hear but do not listen.
There are some who pick and choose what teachings of Jesus to keep and what teachings to dismiss.
We need to remember who speaks with authority.
We need to remember who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
We are not free until we make Jesus the Lord of our lives.
Dear Lord, help me to hear your voice. Help me to remember your authority. Help me to choose Your Way, Your Truth, Your Life. Amen.

Amen! There is one voice that cuts through all the clutter, which is why it is so important to make sure we spend a little time each day listening to It!

God Bless you!

Excellent reflection, Colleen. And just like the man with the unclean spirit, there are similar spirits around and in us that need to be quieted and removed before we can hear and listen to Jesus speak to us with authority.
Thanks and God bless.

Michael, I like how you put that! A voice that cuts through all the clutter. Amen! God bless!

Karinann, yes! I agree! So many voices, like the clutter Michael referred to.
Thank you! God bless!

Wonderful reminder, Colleen! It's so important to listen for that still, small voice in the midst of life's chaos and confusion.

great words here Colleen. I often thought how it must have been to actually hear Jesus when He spoke, There must have been such love, authenticity and connection with HIs listenings. What a Savior we love!

Jean, amen! Can you imagine hearing Jesus preach and talk to us about our Father's love and mercy? Can you just imagine?

Amen. A prayer I say before Mass or when I am looking at the propers ahead of time is, "Jesus, teach me what you want me to know."

The post also reminds me of Ps. 95:8, "If you shall hear His voice today, harden not your hearts."
