My Lord and My God

Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”  - Jn 20:28-29

Such beautiful words. Words that many of us say at Mass when we see the Body and Blood elevated.
My Lord and my God!

Surely a beautiful way to declare our faith, our belief, in something that seems so unbelievable to some.
A profession of faith.
And do we say these same words when we see Jesus' presence in our lives?
Do we pay attention?
Do we stop dead in our tracks, and in front of others give witness to the living God?
My Lord and my God!
One of the things I love about Thomas, is that he was not afraid to say he doubted. He was not afraid to say he needed proof. But in the end, he did not stick his hand in Jesus' wounds. He saw Jesus standing before him and he knew, in his heart of hearts, who Jesus was.
And he was not afraid to say it.
My Lord and my God!
Dear Lord, help me to be aware of your presence in my everyday life and to help lead others to a deeper faith. And may I be bold enough to make my profession of faith in front of all. Amen.

"Do we ever say these words when we see Jesus' presence in our lives?" Those words were like some cold water splashed in my face. I never really thought of it that way before. Jesus shows Himself in so many ways in moments throughout my day. How good it would be if I only stopped and said those 5 little words that hold so much power and grace.
And yes, may I be bold enough to say it before all men!
Insightful and soul provoking post, Colleen.
Hugs & Blessings and a blessed Divine Mercy Sunday!

Karinann, thank you! I know what you mean. That hit me hard too. And I love that declaration of faith and praise.

Wonderful post. I have always loved that Jesus didn't chastise Thomas, telling him to just "go have faith," but He actually invited Thomas to see for himself. How merciful is our God!

I too love Thomas and all the lessons he brings us.

This phrase you focused on - My Lord and My God" wouldn't that make a lovely breath prayer?

love your words tonight, Colleen

Nancy, our pastor talked about this in his homily today. He said how Jesus knew just what Thomas needed in order to help him believe. Thank you!

Jean, absolutely!! Thanks!
